City of Salamanca Charter

  • In March 2022 City of Salamanca Mayor Sandra Magiera chose to appointment a Charter Commission to review and recommend changes to the City Charter.
  • The Charter Commission has had meetings almost every month since.  Through the months there have been many suggested changes made.  The changes are mostly grammar and to reflect the current procedures of the City government.
  • Any major changes would need to be done with approval of the Common Council through Local Law.
  • At the bottom of this page you will see links to various stages of the Charter.
  • The current Charter is available through a seperate webpage.
  • The Amended Charter has changes noted in the color red for remove and blue for additions.  Please note that some parts are also being moved to appropriate sections.
  • The final Charter is what the Charter Commission has proposed for adoption.
  • This has been provided to the Cattaraugus County Board of Elections.  It will then be placed on the Primary Election ballot as a Local Proposition [Question] for registered voters of the City of Salamanca to vote on.  "Shall the new City Charter proposed by the City Charter Commission be adopted?"
  • If approved by the voters it will go into effect January 1, 2024.
  • If anyone has questions regarding the changes please contract Mayor Magiera at 716-945-3110 or smagiera@salmun.com.
  • We thank you for your interest in our City government and hope are in agreement with the changes proposed.
